Terms of Use

These terms are the agreement between you and Jakub Andrejco for the use of Pipkin. Installing or using the app means you accept them. If you do not, do not use the app.

Who provides this app

Required by German law (DDG §5), Austrian law (ECG §5) and the e-commerce rules of the other countries Pipkin is offered in:

Your licence

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use Pipkin on devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial use. We keep ownership of the app itself.

What you may not do

  • Copy, sell, sub-licence, rent out or redistribute the app.
  • Reverse-engineer, decompile or disassemble it, except so far as law expressly permits despite this restriction — including the interoperability and error-correction rights under Directive 2009/24/EC, which this clause does not limit.
  • Circumvent the paid tier, or use another person's account.
  • Submit content that is unlawful, infringing, hateful, or that you do not have the right to publish.
  • Automate access, scrape the recipe catalogue, or use the app in a way that degrades it for other people.

Accounts

You need an account, you must give an accurate email address, and you are responsible for what happens under your account. Tell us promptly if you think it has been compromised. You must be 16 or over, or the lower age your country sets.

What you submit

Recipes and reviews you publish stay yours. By publishing them you grant us a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive licence to host, display, distribute and translate them within Pipkin, which is what makes it possible to show them to other users. You confirm you own what you publish or have permission to publish it.

Submitted recipes are reviewed before they appear. We may reject or remove content that breaks these terms, and we will tell you why.

How reviews work

Required by the Omnibus Directive, which obliges us to say how we make sure reviews are genuine:

  • Every review in Pipkin was written by a registered account holder inside the app. One review per account per recipe, enforced by the database.
  • We do not buy, commission, incentivise or write reviews, and we do not accept payment to publish, suppress or reorder them.
  • We do not verify that a reviewer actually cooked the recipe, and we do not claim to. Star averages are computed from the reviews on the recipe and from nothing else.
  • A recipe with no reviews shows no rating rather than a zero.
  • We remove reviews that break these terms. We do not remove one for being negative.

Pipkin+ subscriptions

Pipkin is free to use with limits. Pipkin+ removes those limits and unlocks scanning and recipe submission. The terms of sale are:

  • Two options: monthly, or annual. The price in your currency, including VAT at your local rate, is shown on the purchase screen before you buy, and that displayed price is the one that applies.
  • You are not buying from us. Apple or Google is the seller and takes the payment at confirmation of purchase; we receive only the fact that you subscribed.
  • The subscription renews automatically at the same price for the same period, and keeps renewing until you cancel.
  • Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours of the end of the current period.
  • Cancel at any time in your Apple or Google account settings. Cancelling stops the next renewal; it does not shorten the period you have already paid for, and you keep Pipkin+ until that period ends. Cancel at least 24 hours before it does.
  • If you have notifications switched on, the app reminds you three days before a renewal is charged. That is a courtesy, not a condition — your subscription renews whether or not the reminder arrives.
  • If we change the price, the new one applies only from your next renewal, and only after we have told you in advance and given you the chance to cancel.

Your right to withdraw, and refunds

As a consumer in the EU, the EEA or Switzerland you normally have 14 days to withdraw from a distance contract, without giving a reason.

Because Apple and Google are the sellers of Pipkin+, that right is exercised against them and not against us. We cannot process a withdrawal or a refund, and any promise here that we could would be a promise we are unable to keep. Request it through your App Store or Google Play purchase history, which is also where the receipt and the seller's own terms are.

Note that a subscription usually begins immediately, and the store will normally have asked you to agree to that. Where you have expressly consented to immediate performance and acknowledged that you lose the right of withdrawal once the service is fully performed, the 14-day right may not apply — this is Article 16(m) of Directive 2011/83/EU, and it is the store, not us, that obtains that consent.

None of this limits any statutory right you have against us for a service that is faulty or not as described.

Recipes, nutrition and food safety

This matters more than the rest of this document. Read it.

  • Pipkin does not know whether your food is safe to eat. Expiry dates are what you typed in, reminders are calculated from them, and neither is a judgement about the food in front of you. Use your own senses and judgement, and follow the packaging.
  • Nutrition figures in the catalogue are estimates for a typical preparation. They are not dietary or medical advice. If you have a condition that depends on precise intake, do not rely on them.
  • Dietary tags such as “Vegetarian” or “Gluten-free” are labels on the recipe, not a guarantee, and say nothing about how ingredients were produced or whether they were processed near an allergen. If you have a food allergy or intolerance, check every ingredient yourself. We cannot do that for you and do not try to.
  • The avoid list in Settings hides recipes that **list** an ingredient you asked to keep out. It matches names; it cannot see inside them, so a recipe listing a stock cube may still contain milk. It is a filter, not an allergen check, and it does not change the paragraph above: if you have an allergy, check every ingredient yourself.
  • Recipes submitted by other users are not tested by us. Approving one means it looked like a genuine recipe, not that it is safe, accurate or nutritious.
  • Ingredients identified from a photograph are a guess by software and are frequently wrong. Check them.
  • Impact figures — weight saved and money saved — are estimates from average weights and average prices. They are an encouragement, not a measurement, and are not accounting.

Availability

We try to keep Pipkin running but do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free. We may change, suspend or withdraw features. If we withdraw something you are paying for, you may cancel and seek a refund from the store.

Ending this agreement

You may stop at any time by deleting your account in Settings. We may suspend or terminate an account that breaks these terms, and where it is reasonable to do so we will warn you first and give you a chance to put it right. If we terminate a paid account without cause, you may seek a refund of the unused period from the store.

Liability

We are liable without limit for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for intent and gross negligence, for fraud, and under applicable product liability law. For slight negligence we are liable only where we breach an obligation essential to the purpose of this agreement, and then only for the foreseeable damage typical of this kind of contract.

Subject to that, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss arising from your reliance on a recipe, a nutrition figure, a dietary tag, an expiry reminder or an impact estimate.

Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot be limited by law, and if you are a consumer your statutory rights are unaffected.

Complaints and dispute resolution

Please write to privacy@pipkin.eu first. If we cannot settle it between us, a consumer body may be able to help:

  • Czechia — Česká obchodní inspekce (coi.gov.cz)
  • Slovakia — Slovenská obchodná inšpekcia (soi.sk)
  • Germany — «state your VSBG §36 position: a body, or an explicit no»
  • Austria — Internet Ombudsstelle (ombudsstelle.at)
  • France — «name and address of the mediator you have joined»
  • Italy — an ADR body listed by the Ministry of Enterprise, or the conciliation service of your local chamber of commerce
  • Switzerland — there is no general consumer arbitration scheme; your cantonal consumer advice service can help, and the ordinary courts remain open to you.
  • The EU's online dispute resolution platform closed on 20 July 2025 and is not an option.

Apple

For the iOS app: this agreement is between you and us, not Apple, and Apple is not responsible for the app or its content. Apple has no obligation to provide support. If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price; Apple has no other warranty obligation. We, not Apple, are responsible for addressing any claim that the app infringes intellectual property rights. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. We will show material changes in the app before they take effect. If you do not accept them, stop using Pipkin and delete your account; continuing to use it after they take effect means you accept them.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of country. If you are a consumer this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory law of the country you live in, and you may bring proceedings in the courts there.
